Officially Names the Best Avengers Member of All Time

Black Panther officially names the one team member who may truly be an Avengers' Avenger — if not the undisputed best Avenger of all time.

Vision might be the best superhero to ever be inducted into the Avengers, according to Black Panther. Vision first debuted in 1968 and, soon thereafter, would join the Avengers. To this day he remains a staple of the team. According to another figurehead of the team, Black Panther, Vision is an even bigger component of the Avengers unit than fans may give him credit for.

Black Panther makes such a bold declaration after the Vision's apparent death in a dream sequence from The Avengers #7 by Jed MacKay, C.F. Villa, Federico Blee, VC's Cory Petit. The declaration in question sees T'Challa referring to The Vision as "the best of us in many ways. That he would lay down his life first was proof of that."

The issue comes off of the heels of the Avengers ending their previous arc, which pitted them against the Ashen Combine. While they now put those God-tier adversaries in their rearview mirror after befriending the Impossible City, the team now must face Myrddin, the villain who set their latest escapades in motion, courtesy of an ominous warning from Kang the Conqueror.

The Vision is the Best Avenger, According to Black Panther

Myrddin arrives after the Avengers are put to sleep by Nightmare, forced to live through a worst-case scenario in which the world dies, as does Vision. In mourning Vision, Black Panther praises him. Even if it is ultimately a dream, the Avengers' reactions and thoughts are real and true to their lives. When Scarlet Witch is the first to break from Nightmare's hold, she finds that Vision is the only one who didn't succumb to it, alerting her to the Twilight Court's arrival. The fact that he's the sole Avenger not to fall under Nightmare's trickery speaks to the advantages he has over the rest of his Avengers peers, even as an android who doesn't need sleep.

There are certainly many ways that Vision can be viewed as the best of the Avengers, but Black Panther names what is perhaps the biggest reason. T'Challa points out how, in this dream world, Vision is the first to sacrifice himself to protect his teammates. Again, even though this is a dream, this speaks to something that Vision not only would do, but consistently has done in the past. Even in media other than comics, Vision has always been prone to protect the people in front of him by any means necessary, speaking to the larger humanity at the core of Vision's character.

Vision Is the Best Avenger

Despite being an android, Vision has encompassed a level of empathy and humanity that not only defines the character, but also separates him from even the best Avengers who may not share the same traits. It's why Avengers like Black Panther admire him so much, making Vision something of an Avengers' Avenger.
