Chris Hemsworth already proposed the perfect Thor 5 director who would replace Taika Waititi in the upcoming MCU sequel. Iron Man and Captain America may have been the MCU's two main leads throughout the Infinity Saga, but Chris Hemworth's Thor is the first Marvel hero to star in four solo movies, with a fifth installment already on the horizon. Although little is known about Thor 5, it has been confirmed that Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi won't return to direct another Thor movie. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworthhas made it clear that he wants the film to take the God of Thunder in a brand-new direction.

One of the directors Chris Hemsworth has worked with throughout his career is George Miller, known for his work on the Mad Max franchise. After writing and directing Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and the Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller is working on a Furiosa spinoff prequel, where Chris Hemsworth plays a younger version of the Mad Max: Fury Road villain Immortan Joe. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Chris Hemsworth expressed his interest in working with creative directors and his admiration for George Miller, specifically.

I'm just at the point of my life where I'm meeting with different directors and [people say] “Oh yeah, look, he's a mad genius. He's mad, but he's a genius and he'll make great films.” I'm like, “Is that who I want to spend my days with?” Four months, five months of shooting and then you've got press and possible reshoots and so on.

Now, if something's going to pull me away from my family and my kids, it's got to be a positive, constructive, collaborative experience. I shot with George Miller on the new prequel to Fury Road, part of the Mad Max saga, and I said to my agent, “That's where I want to spend my work hours; with someone who is kind and collaborative and interesting.”

 If there's anywhere Chris Hemsworth and George Miller can reunite after completing Furiosa, it's in Thor 5. After Taika Waititi's departure from Thor 5 and Hemsworth's comments about a necessary change in direction for the God of Thunder, the input of a director as ambitious and imaginative as George Miller seems like a logical match for the Thor sequel. And of course, Miller and Hemsworth's shared experience on the Furiosa set only makes a future collaboration more likely.

George Miller's Thor 5 Could Exorcise A Missed Comic Book Movie Opportunity

George Miller's involvement in Thor 5 could also redeem the superhero project Miller almost got to make almost two decades prior: Justice League Mortal. Before the MCU and the DCEU were established, George Miller's canceled Justice League Mortal was going to assemble DC's superhero team on the big screen for the first time. Despite having advanced quite a lot in production and cast its main characters, Justice League Mortal was canceled. The 2008 writers' strike and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy influenced the film's cancelation, but it also influenced the birth of the DCEU a few years later with 2013's Man of Steel.

Why George Miller Would Be Amazing For Thor 5

George Miller's work on the Mad Max franchise is more than clear evidence of his potential for Thor 5. The Mad Max movies are unapologetically outlandish and filled with over-the-top action. A Thor sequel influenced by Mad Max could continue the extravagant style added to the franchise by Taika Waititi since Thor: Ragnarok, but Mad Max's practical effects and physical sets, coupled with its serious approach to the plot's stakes, could improve Thor's MCU formula without causing tonal whiplash after Thor: Love and Thunder. After all, George Miller not only understands action, but also comedy and lighthearted stories, as evidenced by his directing work on Babe and Happy Feet.
