The Deadpool franchise is expanding with Deadpool 3, which will continue Ryan Reynolds' journey as Wade Wilson and the character's introduction to the MCU. Originally playing the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds' poor experience with the character only fueled his desire to give the Merc with a Mouth justice on the big screen. Deadpool's reboot in 2016 proved the Marvel character's insane popularity, and Deadpool 3 has a release date of 8th November 2024. It's also confirmed Deadpool will be part of the MCU for his third movie, and it will finally see a proper Deadpool and Wolverine pairing as Hugh Jackman returns to his famous role in the Deadpool 3 cast for the first time after Logan. That news alone makes Deadpool 3 one of the most anticipated MCU movies.
After Ryan Reynolds spent years trying to make Deadpool happen, the first two Deadpool movies were critical and financial smash hits. Both earned more than $780 million worldwide and were praised for the R-rated jokes and violence they included. Deadpool 3 is one of many projects is part of the upcoming MCU slate of movies and TV shows. Disney and Marvel confirmed the Merc with a Mouth would be coming home to the MCU at SDCC 2022, with the release date confirmed by Reynolds later the same year. Deadpool is now positioned to be part of the Multiverse Saga in the MCU which has also allowed him to bring along a friend from the X-Men universe, with Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 as well as some other returning Marvel movie characters.
Deadpool 3 Release Date
However, Ryan Reynolds was still able to announce in 2022 that Deadpool 3 would be ready in time for inclusion as part of the MCU Phase 5. The movie is scheduled to arrive between The Marvels (November 2023) and Captain America: Brave New World (July 2024) in the MCU lineup, which means it will be directly in the middle of Phase 5's movie releases.
Every Confirmed Marvel Character In Deadpool
- Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool
- Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
- Jennifer Garner as Elektra
- Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead
- Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio
- Stefan Kapicic as Colossus
- Leslie Uggams as Blind Al
Ryan Reynolds is, of course, officially on board to return to star in Deadpool 3, marking his MCU debut. It marks the fourth appearance by the actor as the irreverent, Marvel superhero. When audiences last saw Deadpool, he was time-traveling in Deadpool 2's post-credits scene, which could set up his first MCU appearance. The biggest Deadpool 3 cast news from the movie has clearly been the return of Jackman as Wolverine, something many fans had simply given up on ever seeing. Logan, released in 2017, was touted as the end of Jackman's Wolverine story, and despite the calls for his return, it was a satisfying conclusion.
However, in September 2022, Ryan Reynolds announced on social media with a hilarious video that Jackman would return to the iconic role once again. Jackman later expressed that his appearance in no way undoes what happened in Logan, but simply takes place at an earlier time. Beyond Jackman and Reynolds, the only other official casting news is Emma Corrin being cast in her villain role.
Deadpool 3 also sees the return of Deadpool characters Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) though Domino actress Zazie Beetz and Cable actor Josh Brolin are both out. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Most interestingly, Jennifer Garner's Elektra returns from Ben Affleck's Daredevil movie, opening up more strands of the MCU multiverse, and teasing that other prior Marvel movie figures could still appear in the film also.

Deadpool 3 Trailer Info
Deadpool 3 Is Part Of The MCU Canon
It has been confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that the movie will bring Deadpool to the MCU, seemingly via the Multiverse Saga's overarching storyline. Deadpool's previous movies seemingly had references to the MCU, such as the helicarrier-like vehicle used as the location for Deadpool's final battle. However, the movies also included several mutants and established X-Men characters, such as the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix appearing in Deadpool 2. An MCU Deadpool 3 gives him a whole host more events and characters to play with.
On the other hand, the MCU recently introduced mutants in Ms. Marvel, as well as a Patrick Stewart Charles Xavier variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Phase 4 has laid solid groundwork for the eventual appearance of the X-Men, and it's a testament to Deadpool's popularity that he appears to be debuting in the MCU before characters like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Magneto, or other incredibly well-known mutants (but alongside Hugh Jackman's Wolverine) - though the movie could well be the means through which the X-Men come to the MCU.
Deadpool 3 Director & Writers
Disney and Marvel are keeping with another tradition of the Deadpool franchise by changing directors with each installment. Tim Miller helmed the first movie, but David Leitch took over for Deadpool 2. When it comes to the follow-up, it has been confirmed that Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3. The new job marks the continuation of Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy working together and delivering a series of hits in Free Guy and The Adam Project.
It was reported that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin from Bob's Burgers were working on the script with original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had been hired to take over writing duties in early 2022. They have since reassured that Deadpool won't be "Disney-fied" and will retain the same humor and tone as the previous two movies.
