A new update from Disney officially confirms the two live-action Star Wars TV shows set for 2024 releases, along with two potential major changes to the release slate. Since Star Wars Celebration 2023, audiences have been eagerly awaiting updates regarding upcoming Star Wars TV shows. Ahsoka was the final live-action show of 2023, with more planned to expand the franchise in 2024. However, official confirmation regarding Star Wars' TV shows has been scarce, leading many to wonder what the coming year holds for a galaxy far, far away.
As per a page on Disney.com, the studio has confirmed that the two live-action shows set for release in 2024 are Star Wars: The Acolyte and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Star Wars: The Acolyte is a High Republic story, told for the first time in live-action. Concerning Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's story, the show takes place in the New Republic era alongside The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett. Disney has now confirmed both of these projects for release in 2024, though the page on the studio's website raises two potential big changes to Lucasfilm's previously rumored release schedule.
Disney's Announcement Hints At Some Changes To The Star Wars Schedule
The first possible change to Star Wars' TV release schedule becomes evident when comparing the listing of 2024 releases to that of other franchises on the website. Most other franchise properties are listed in release order, including those of Marvel Studios. As such, this could hint that The Acolyte will release before Skeleton Crew as the former is listed first, despite the latter initially being rumored for a late 2023 release. Recent reports have indicated that Skeleton Crew is being pushed back to late 2024, something that Disney's new schedule lends credence to.
Another major potential change is that Andor season 2 is nowhere to be found on the Disney website. Andor season 2 was filmed in 2023 and was originally set for a Fall 2024 release date. However, Andor was impacted by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, meaning the show may have been delayed until 2025. Given that it is not listed as a Lucasfilm release in 2024 by Disney's own website, it could be the case that Star Wars' most exciting show may not return until almost three years after its first season.
