Disney's Tangled Getting a Live-Action Remake with Greatest Showman Director

Rapunzel is making the leap from animation.

Disney's 2010 animated film Tangled about the long-haired princess is getting a live-action reimagining, Deadline and Variety reported Dec. 11, adding that The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is in talks to direct.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for writing Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder, reportedly wrote the latest version of the Tangled script.

A spokesperson for Disney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for confirmation.

Tangled's voice cast included Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn, plus Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor and Brad Garrett. The movie musical earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for "I See the Light."

For Tangled's 10th anniversary in November 2020, Moore and Levi reunited in a video for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Levi called the film "evergreen" and Moore said she "can't believe" it had been a decade.

"It was such an immense pleasure and joy," added Moore. "Like Zach has said many of times, a bucket-list opportunity and experience, and one I'll never forget. It's just endless gratitude for all of the support people have shown the film over the years."

Levi said, "Thank you for believing in the film then, for continuing to believe in it now. For sharing it, for being enthusiastic about it."

"We hope you enjoy it for years to come," said Moore at the time.
