Agatha All Along Gets a Very Disappointing Season 2 Update

Patti LuPone confirmed heartbreaking news for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans today. During an appearance on Sirius XM's Andy Cohen Live, the series-stealing Lilia Calderu actress alleged the character won't be appearing in an Agatha All Along Season 2—not only because her character met her fate in Season 1, but because there won't be another season at all.

"There won't be [a Season 2]. Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, 'Patti, I'm just here to tell you that Lilia's going to die,'" LuPone recollected during the radio appearance. "And I went, 'But I wanted a second season.'"

No Season 2 for MCU's Agatha All Along, Aligning With Showrunner Philosophy

The Marvel Disney Plus Series Serves As A Second Part of A Spiritual Trilogy

Fans may want to hold off on mourning the loss of future seasons. While Agatha All Along might not receive another batch of episodes, its title character and cohorts will likely appear in future MCU projects. The series proved that characters and continuity could carry on between seemingly separate Disney+ series; the Kathryn Hahn-led project followed up on the similarly single-seasoned WandaVision, two parts of a pseudo-trilogy, Agatha All Along bridging WandaVision and the upcoming Vision series.

MCU completists can rest assured Schaeffer, who showran WandaVision, Agatha, and will return to the MCU with the upcoming Vision series, can use the limited series format to the franchise's advantage. In speaking with Cohen, LuPone offered insight into how the single-season rollout aligns with the creator's artistic vision: "[Schaeffer] said, 'I don't do second seasons. They wanted me to do a second season of WandaVision and I didn't.' She said, 'There's too much to write,' so she does one-offs," justified the Broadway star, adding "I'm really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she's magic."

Lilia Calderu Won't Be Returning To The MCU

Patti LuPone's Impressive Agatha All Along Performance Is A One-Off

LuPone's turn as Lilia Calderu was spellbinding, too, reaching its peak in Agatha All Along Episode 7 of Agatha All Along. The character's climactic self-sacrifice during a transcendental tarot session, saving Agatha and the coven, was a series high. The news LuPone won't return to the MCU is bittersweet, preserving the sanctity of an all-time MCU but robbing audiences of more Calderu kookiness.

Agatha All Along concluded its acclaimed run on October 30, 2024, with Agatha, in ghost form, venturing out with Wiccan, son of the Scarlet Witch, promising a continued adventure of some sort. The series' events ripple through the Vision series, with speculation pointing to the show being used as a platform to debut Wiccan's brother, Speed. Marvel and Schaeffer have not responded to requests for comment confirming LuPone's claims.
