Rumor: Tangled Live-Action Remake Still Eyeing Florence Pugh For Rapunzel

Thunderbolts actor Florence Pugh could be Rapunzel in Tangled remake

According to popular internet scooper Daniel Richtman, Florence Pugh, who will reprise her role of Yelena Belova in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, is currently the frontrunner to portray Rapunzel in the live-action remake of Tangled.

In his latest X(formerly Twitter) post, Richtman stated, “Florence Pugh is still the one who’s being eyed to play Rapunzel.” However, he failed to provide a decisive update on the movie’s casting in his update.

Since the announcement, several theories as to who could occupy the leading roles in the Tangled live-action remake have emerged on the internet. Aside from Florence Pugh’s potential casting as Rapunzel, her Marvel co-star Kathryn Hahn is in the offing to play Mother Gothel, according to Richtman. Nonetheless, Disney has yet to provide any official confirmation regarding the actors who could feature in the said project.

According to Deadline’s report from last month, The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is presently in talks to helm the live-action Tangled remake. Meanwhile, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson of Thor: Love and Thunder fame has reportedly penned the most recent version of the script. Additionally, Kristin Burr and Lucy Kitada are seemingly serving as the producers for the film.

Other than that, details regarding how the live-action remake is progressing at Disney remain unclear. In the meantime, fans who wish to see Florence Pugh in action can catch her as Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts*, which rolls out in theatres on May 2, 2025.
