After A24 landed one of its biggest hits with the Philippou brothers’ horror film “Talk to Me,” the indie banner is bringing them back for “Bring Her Back,” their next supernatural thriller. The first teaser debuted Wednesday morning.
While the footage typically obfuscates the narrative details around the film’s occult thrills, the logline confirms that the story follows a brother and sister who uncover a horrifying ritual in their foster mother’s home. Some of the more striking images featured include found-footage from an early digital camera, a bird’s-eye of a prayer circle and Sally Hawkins putting her bloody hand upon a window.
Along with Hawkins, “Bring Her Back” also stars Billy Barratt, Sora Wong and Jonah Wren Phillips. Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton are producers for Causeway Films. Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, who got started under the name RackaRacka, are directing, while Danny co-wrote the script with Bill Hinzman. The Philippou brothers returned to their native Australia to shoot “Bring Her Back.”
The siblings’ debut feature “Talk to Me” premiered at the 2022 Adelaide Festival before having its international breakout at 2023 Sundance. Out of the Park City screening, the film was acquired by A24 for a sum in the high seven-figures. The indie banner turned “Talk to Me” into one of its biggest hits ever. The horror film earned $92 million worldwide and it stands as A24’s third-highest-grossing release in its history. “Talk to Me” also cleaned up at the next year’s Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards, winning prizes for best picture, best director and best actress.
“Bring Her Back” will release in the summer. Watch the teaser below.
