Moon Knight will return to the MCU, but it might not be in the way fans expected. The titularly titled Moon Knight debuted on Disney+ on March 30, 2022, and was the first MCU Disney+ show not based on a previously established character, kicking off a wave of new heroes being introduced on the small screen, like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. But it doesn't look like we'll be getting another season of the Oscar Isaac starring show anytime soon.
Speaking with Comic Book, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum revealed that Marvel does have plans for Moon Knight in the future, but it doesn't include the hero getting a Season 2, at least right now. "So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future, and moving forward our priorities have shifted,” Winderbaum said. "We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."
Winderbaum does not entirely rule out the potential of Moon Knight Season 2, of course, because in Hollywood you never say never. Based on his past comments regarding previously-considered standalone series Hawkeye and Agatha All Along Season 2 renewals, Moon Knight returning to TV could always be on the table. But at the moment, Moon Knight Season 2 does not fit with Marvel's current plans for TV series that look more like old-school television shows; ones that run for multiple seasons and return annually. Casting someone as in-demand as Oscar Isaac probably doesn't help scheduling matters, either. Whether this spells bad news for other MCU hero solo series like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Ms. Marvel remains to be seen.
Where Moon Knight Could Return
Moon Knight ended on a rather big cliffhanger, revealing that Marc Spector and Steven Grant did have a third identity, Jake Lockley, and that this one was still working for the Egyptian god Khonshu. This reveal took place three years ago, and the MCU has not picked up the plotline since. The only appearance of Moon Knight since the series was in an episode of What If...? that takes place in an alternate reality.
If Moon Knight Season 2 is not on the table, the question then becomes 'where will Moon Knight next appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?' With Avengers: Doomsday set to hit theaters in May 2026, bringing a big name like Oscar Isaac into the superhero ensemble would be a big move. Moon Knight has been a member of The Avengers in the comics before and could likely be on Sam Wilson's radar to join his New Avengers team following the events of Captain America: Brave New World.
The other big possibility is that Moon Knight will be used as a central figure in a planned supernatural team-up film. Moon Knight first appeared in an issue of Werewolf by Night, and with that character also getting his own Halloween special in 2022, Marvel Studios is building up their supernatural and horror corner with planned titles like the long-delayed Blade movie. Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Blade (and possibly the arrival of Ghost Rider) could make for an epic team-up. Like the Hulk, Moon Knight is well-suited to be a supporting character who pops up in various titles instead of the lead of his own solo title again.
