Matthew Lillard Joins ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2

EXCLUSIVEMatthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy’s) is set to join the cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which heads into production next week, Deadline has learned.

Character details are being kept under lock and key. The news comes just ahead of the Marvel Television series’ Season 1 premiere, with its first two episodes set to debut on Disney+ on March 4.

A continuation of the acclaimed Daredevil series that aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, Born Again picks up with our hero Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, amid a continued fight for justice through his bustling law firm. At the same time, former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

Daredevil: Born Again went through a creative overhaul in the fall of 2023, following a production pause due to the writers strike, and it’s apparently worked, as reviews for the new show are glowing.

In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, returning cast members include Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Murdock’s friends, Karen Page and Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle aka Punisher. Others aboard for Season 1 include Margarita Levieva, Ayelet Zurer, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Wilson Bethel, and Tony Dalton.

Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) served as showrunner and will be back in that capacity for Season 2. The EPs are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Dario Scardapane, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

Lillard has been on a tear of late, landing roles in one high-profile franchise after another. Recently set to return to the Scream franchise with Scream 7, he’ll also be seen in the second season of Amazon’s hit series Cross and reprise in Uni and Blumhouse’s sequel to the hit horror video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Next up, Lillard will be seen in The Life of Chuck, the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, which won the coveted People’s Choice Award at TIFF 2024 and is slated for release by Neon on June 6. The actor is repped by Verve, Strand Entertainment and Heller Law.
