Rumored God of War Remasters Get Encouraging Update from Insider

A credible insider has alleged that the long-rumored God of War remasters will be announced next month. The God of War franchise will celebrate its 20th anniversary in March 2025, and developer Santa Monica Studio may accompany it with a very special surprise for longstanding fans of the series.

Rumors of a remastered collection of the Greek God of War games began circulating online late last year. According to the source of the rumor, the God of War remasters were being prepared to commemorate the series' 20th anniversary in 2025, and that they'd be revealed at The Game Awards 2024 in December. The latter part of this rumor didn't come to fruition, leading some to believe that the Greek God of War games might be heading to the PS Plus Premium classics catalog in 2025 instead of receiving remasters.

Earlier this month, another rumor claimed that the God of War remasters would break cover at the February 2025 State of Play, but that didn't happen either. Hopes for a remastered Greek saga collection then plummeted in the God of War community, but reputable industry insider Jeff Grubb has rekindled some faith in the prospect. Over on BlueSky, a recent post from Grubb states that the earlier God of War remaster rumors "jumped the gun a little bit," and that the project will supposedly be revealed around the same time as the upcoming 20th anniversary exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California.

God of War PS5 Remaster Announcement May Not Be That Far Away

The exhibition is slated to be held from March 15 to March 23, which could mean that the God of War remaster announcement is less than a month away. Grubb has historically been accurate about many PlayStation-related rumors in the past, and even notable insider Tom Henderson recently alleged that the next God of War game could return to Greece and feature a younger Kratos. Should Santa Monica Studio actually be gearing up to reveal a remastered God of War collection next month, it should be interesting to see which Greek saga games it could include.

Aside from the three mainline God of War games, there are a couple of PSP spin-offs and the 2013 prequel God of War: Ascension. The best-case scenario would be a remastered collection of all six Greek God of War games, but only time will tell if that happens. Alternatively, Santa Monica Studio might just remaster the very first God of War game and possibly make the others playable (barring God of War: Ascension) via the PS Plus Premium classics catalog.
