Teen Titans DCU Movie Gets Exciting Update From James Gunn

It's official: a Teen Titans movie for the DC Universe is in the works. DC Studios co-CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn confirmed that Ana Nogueira is writing a Teen Titans movie during a recent press event for the studio.

Per Variety, Safran let slip that reports of a Teen Titans movie were true after a reporter asked about the status of Nogueira's screenplay. "The script’s not ready yet. I mean, I think we said that Ana Nogueira is writing it," the DC head said, leading Gunn to remark, "We haven’t said that." The back-and-forth exchange continued with Safran stating, "No, I think it was out there," with Gunn replying, "It’s out there," implying that DC Studios had never officially confirmed the reports until now. "It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us," said Gunn about how the project came to be. "She’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script."

A live-action Teen Titans movie was reported to be in development in March 2024, with Nogueira attached to pen the screenplay. This marks Nogueira's second movie for DC Studios after the upcoming DCU movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is inspired by Tom King's 2022 comic book series of the same name. The miniseries follows a 21-year-old Kara Zor-El as she travels across the galaxy with Krypto, during which she meets a young girl named Ruthye and goes on a murderous quest for revenge. Production on Supergirl began in January 2025, with Craig Gillespie in the director's chair and Milly Alcock in the title role.

Two More DCU Movies Are Looking to Begin Filming in 2025

If all things go according to plan, two more DCU movies could begin production in 2025: Clayface and Sgt. Rock. The former is a World War II-set movie about infantry soldier Sgt. Franklin John Rock, whose talents include shooting down German planes with a single submachine gun and tossing grenades with great accuracy. The character made his DCU debut in the Creature Commandos episode "Cheers to the Tin Man", voiced by Maury Sterling. However, Sterling will not reprise the role in live-action, with DC Studios currently on the hunt for someone to take on the role. It was previously believed that Daniel Craig was attached to play Sgt. Rock, although Gunn and Safran clarified at the press event that the actor was "never attached" to the role.

DC Studios is eyeing a Summer 2025 production start for Sgt. Rock, which is also when Clayface is expected to begin shooting. Speak No Evil director James Watkins recently signed on to direct Clayface, which boasts a screenplay by acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. Like Sgt. Rock, Clayface made his DCU debut in Creature Commandos, voiced by Alan Tudyk. However, a different actor will be sought to portray Clayface in live-action, as Tudyk's main DCU role is Doctor Phosphorus.

Teen Titans remains undated at DC Studios.
