'F--k Jeff Bezos': Acclaimed Horror Director Defiantly Shoots Down James Bond Film Possibilities

The 26th James Bond movie will be the first to be made under the new creative direction of Amazon MGM Studios. Longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have signed off on a new deal that will allow Amazon MGM to take complete creative control of the franchise moving forward, but it remains to be seen how the movie series will be different as a result.

Meanwhile, while many talents in Hollywood are excited about possibly becoming a part of the franchise, don't count on seeing Osgood Perkins in the mix to direct. Perkins, the son of Hollywood legends Anthony Perkins and Berry Berenson, has drawn high acclaim with his recent horror films, Longlegs and The Monkey. In a recent Reddit AMA, Perkins was asked if he would direct James Bond 26, and his response made it clear he won't even consider it.

As Perkins wrote, “No because f**k Jeff Bezos.

No because f**k Jeff Bezos.

Perkins' Longlegs was a major hit, earning over $126 million against a budget of under $10 million. It was not only the highest-grossing film for Neon domestically, but the biggest earner of any indie film for the year. It was given a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and considered by many critics to be among the best horror offerings of 2024. Perkins' latest film, The Monkey, debuted in theaters on Feb. 21. It has since earned more than $31 million against its budget of around $10 million. The movie, an adaptation of a Stephen King story, has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 79%.

Bezos, the head of Amazon, has gone to social media to ask for fans for their help in casting the next 007. After the big news was announced, he posted on Instagram to ask, "Who'd you pick as the next James Bond?" The comments were flooded with suggestions, though Henry Cavill may have been the favorite amongs fans. Cavill has long been a popular pick with fantasy casting for James Bond after he failed to land the role over Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.

“Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment,” Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios boss Mike Hopkins said in a statement when the news was announced on Feb. 20. “We are grateful to the late Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman for bringing James Bond to movie theaters around the world, and to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for their unyielding dedication and their role in continuing the legacy of the franchise that is cherished by legions of fans worldwide. We are honored to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.”
